In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Kilninian like this:

Kilninian and Kilmore, par., in NW. of Mullisland, Argyllshire, 31,254 ac., pop. 405; comprises also the islands of Calve, Gometra, Little Colonsay, and Ulva; Kilninian church is on N. side of Loch Tuadh, 8 miles SW. of Tobermory; Kilmore church is 7 miles NE. of Kilninian church.
