In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Longside like this:
Longside, par. and vil. with ry. sta., Aberdeenshire - par., 16,836 ac., pop. 3222; vil., near South Ugie Water, 6 miles W. of Peterhead, pop. 474; P.O., 1 Bank; in the churchyard is a monument to the Rev. John Skinner, who for 64 years was Episcopal minister of Longside. See LINSHART.
