In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Dreghorn like this:

Dreghorn, par. and vil. with ry. sta., N. Ayrshire -- par., 5626 ac., pop. 3949; vil., 5 miles W. of Kilmarnock, pop. 928; P.O.; has coal, ironstone, limestone, and sandstone.
