In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Ceres like this:
Ceres, par. and vil., mid. Fifeshire, on Ceres Burn, 2½ miles SE. of Cupar -- par., 10,075 ac., pop. 2063; vil., pop. 724; P.O., T.O.; has trade in brown linen.
