In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Glenbuchat like this:
Glenbucket, par., on W. border of Aberdeenshire, 11,084 ac., pop. 506; contains Bridge of Bucket, 44½ miles NW. of Aberdeen; P.O.; in vicinity, at confluence of Bucket Water and r. Don, is Glenbucket Castle (1590), ruined seat of the Gordons of Glenbucket; 7 miles NW., on Bucket Water, is Glenbucket Lodge.
