In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Alvie like this:
Alvie, par., SE. Inverness-shire, containing Lynwilg P.O. and Kincraig ry. sta., on river Spey, 86,613 ac., pop. 707. Alvie Church is 4 miles SW. of Aviemore.
