In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Speymouth like this:
Speymouth, par. and quoad sacra par., Elginshire, near mouth of river Spey - par., 6025 ac., pop. 656; quoad sacra par. (extending into Urquhart par.), pop. 1608; the par. church is 1½ mile NW. of Fochabers.
