In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Campsie like this:
Campsie, par., S. Stirlingshire, containing the vil. of Campsie, the ry. sta. of Campsie Glen, and the town of Lennoxtown, 17,872 ac., pop. 5873; Campsie, vil., 1½ mile NW. of Lennoxtown; 1 Bank; Campsie Fells, that part of the Lennox Hills in Campsie par., greatest alt., 1894 ft.; Campsie Glen, ravine and sta. on North British Railway -- ravine NE., and sta. ½ mile SE. of vil.; Campsie Muir, upland, at head of Campsie Glen.
