In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Meldrum like this:
Old Meldrum, par. and vil. with ry. sta., mid. Aberdeenshire - par., 8102 ac., pop. 2254; vil., 5½ miles NE. of Inverurie Junction and 19 miles NW. of Aberdeen rail, pop. 1494; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. Market-day, Saturday. Old Meldrum was made a burgh of barony in 1672. It has a distillery.
