In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Craig like this:
Craig.* -- coast par. and hamlet, NE. Forfarshire, 1½ m. SW. of Montrose, 4371 ac., pop. 2589; has salmon and other fisheries.
