In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Lonmay like this:
Lonmay, par. and ry. sta., Aberdeenshire, 11,075 ac., pop. 2393; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank; the sta. is 5½ miles S. of Fraserburgh.
