In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Wansbeck like this:
WANSBECK RAILWAY, a railway in Northumberland; from junctions with the Northeastern and the Blyth and Tyne in the neighbourhood of Morpeth, westward, to a junction with the Border Counties line at Reedsmouth, 2 miles SE of Bellingham. It was authorized in 1859, amalgamated with the North British in 1862, and opened throughout in 1865.
Wansbeck is now part of NORTHUMBERLAND Unitary Authority. Click here for graphs and data of how NORTHUMBERLAND has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Wansbeck itself, go to Statistics.
