In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Shottermill like this:
SHOTTER-MILL, a chapelry in Frensham parish, Surrey; 1 mile N of Haslemere r. station. It was constituted in 1844; and it has a post-office under Liphook. Pop., 579. Houses, 122. The property is much sub-divided. The living is a p. curacy in the diocese of Winchester. Value, £86.* Patron, the Archdeacon of Surrey. The church is good.
