In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Scray like this:
SCRAY, a lathe in the central part of Kent; containing the hundreds of Barkeley, Blackbourne, Boughton, Cranbrooke, East Barnfield, Faversham, Marden, Milton, Newenden, Ospringe, Rolvenden, and Selbrittenden, and the liberties of Sheppey and Teynham. Acres, 193, 582. Pop. in 1851, 59, 936; in 1861, 68, 961. Houses, 12, 527.
