In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Ravensbourne like this:
RAVENSBOURNE (The), a river of the N W of Kent; rising near Farnborough; and running about 10 miles north-north-westward, past Bromley and Lewisham, to the Thames at Deptford.
