In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Marfleet like this:
MARFLEET, a parish in Sculcoates district, E. R. Yorkshire; on the Humber, and on the Hull and Holderness railway, 2¼ miles E of Hull. lt has a station on the railway; and its Post town is Hull. Acres, 2,138; of which 1,028 are water. Real property, £2,638. Pop., 176. Houses, 38. The property is divided among a few. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of York. Value, £81. Patron, Mrs. Robinson. The church is good; and there are a Wesleyan chapel, and a coast-guard station.
