In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Lindores like this:
Lindores, vil., Abdie par., Fife, 2 miles SE. of Newburgh; P.O.; adjacent are Lindores House, seat, and Lindores Loch; the remains of Lindores Abbey are in par. and E. vicinity of Newburgh.
