In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Lochwinnoch like this:
Lochwinnoch, par. and vil. with ry. sta., Renfrewshire - par., 19,507 ac., pop. 3369; vil., on river Calder, at W. end of Castle Semple Loch, 1 mile NW. of its ry. sta., which is 8½ miles SW. of Paisley, pop. 1192; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank; the industral establishments include a wool mill, a bleachfield, &c.
