In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Stanborough like this:
STANBOROUGH, a hundred in the S of Devon; containing 18 parishes, and a part. Acres, 63,622. Pop. in 1851, 15,829; in 1861, 14,807. Houses, 3,040.
