In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Leightonstone like this:
LEIGHTONSTONE, a hundred in Huntingdonshire; bounded by the counties of Bedford and Northampton, and by the hundreds of Normancross, Hurstingstone, and Toseland; and containing the parish of Alconbury, twenty-nine other parishes, and parts of three others. Acres, 53,696. Pop. in 1851,10,890; in 186l, 10,789. Houses, 2,333.
