In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Norhamshire like this:

NORHAMSHIRE, a sub-district and a hundred in Northumberland; the former in Berwick district, and both conterminate with Norham parish. The last belonged to the county of Durham prior to the act of 1844, for consolidating detached parts of counties; and was then transferred to Northumberland.
