In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Cawden and Cadworth like this:
CAWDEN AND CADWORTH, a hundred in Wilts. It contains fourteen parishes, and parts of two others; and includes part of Salisbury Plain. Acres, 22,769. Pop., 4,624. Houses, 976.
