In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Winfrith like this:
WINFRITH, a hundred in Dorchester and Wareham disions, Dorset; containing 9 parishes. Acres, 4,160 16,448. Pop. in 1851, 421 and 2,562. Houses, 75 and 520.
