In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Calcewaith like this:
CALCEWORTH, a hundred or wapentake in the parts of Lindsey, Lincoln; cut into the divisions of marsh and wold. The marsh division contains Aby parish and twenty-three other parishes. Acres, 37,812. The wold division contains Alford parish, and fifteen other parishes. Acres, 26,248. Pop. of both, 13,972. Houses, 2,921.
