In 1882-4, Frances Groome's Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland described Cockpool like this:
Cockpool, an old castle, reduced now to the merest vestiges, in Ruthwell parish, SW Dumfriesshire, 1¼ mile SSW of Comlongan Castle.
Cockpool is now part of DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY Council. Click here for graphs and data of how DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Cockpool itself, go to Statistics.
