In 1882-4, Frances Groome's Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland described Salsburgh like this:
Salsburgh or Salysburgh, a village, with a post office, in Shotts parish, Lanarkshire, 3¼ miles NW of Shotts station, and 4½ ENE of Holytown. Pop. (1861) 325, (1871) 553, (1881) 576.
