In 1882-4, Frances Groome's Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland described Senwick like this:
Senwick, an ancient parish of Kirkcudbrightshire, united to Borgue in 1618. Its ruined church is beautifully situated near the W of Kirkcudbright Bay, 5½ miles SSW of Kirkcudbright. In the kirkyard is buried John MTaggart (1791-1830), author of the Gallovidian Encyclopædia. Senwick House, a little to the NW, is the seat of Adam John Corrie, Esq. of Dunrod (b. 1842; sue. 1874), who holds 1062 acres in the shire, valued at £1156 per annum.—Ord. Sur., sh. 5, 1857.
