In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Florence like this:
Florence, rising and populous place, Stone and Trentham pars., W. Staffordshire, 2 miles SW. of Newcastle under Lyme; it is being built upon the grounds of the Duke of Sutherland, with the intention of forming a large suburban town for the Potteries.
Florence is now part of STOKE ON TRENT Unitary Authority. Click here for graphs and data of how STOKE ON TRENT has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Florence itself, go to Statistics.
