In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Brogyntyn like this:
PORKINGTON (Lower and Upper), two townships in Selattyn parish, Salop; 1 mile N W of Oswestry. Real property, £8, 916; of which £14 are in mines. Pop., 1, 128. P. House is the seat of the Gore family.
