In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Ramsdell like this:
Rainsdale.-- eccl. dist. and vil., Monk Sherborne, Tadley, and Wootton St Lawrence pars., Hants - dist., pop. 499; vil., 5 miles NW. of Basingstoke; P.O., called Ramsdell.
