In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Clatterford like this:
CLATTERFORD, a village in Carisbrooke parish, Isle of Wight; near Carisbrooke Castle, 1½ mile SW of Newport. Massive foundations of Roman masonry have been found here; and traces of a Roman road are observable hence towards Brignstone.
Clatterford is now part of ISLE OF WIGHT Unitary Authority. Click here for graphs and data of how ISLE OF WIGHT has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Clatterford itself, go to Statistics.
