In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Little Ouse like this:
OUSE (Little), a chapelry in Hilgay parish, Norfolk. It comprises a detached part of the parish, on the Little Ouse river and on the S border of the county; and was constituted in 1865. Post-town, Downham. Pop., not separately returned. The living is a p. curacy in the diocese of Ely. Value, £280. Patron, the Bishop of Ely. See Hilgay.
