In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Dyffryn like this:
Dyffryn.-- eccl. dist. and vil., Cadoxton par., Glamorgan, pop. 661; the vil. is 5½ miles SW. of Llandaff; in vicinity of vil. is Dyffryn House.
