In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Bruce Grove like this:
Bruce Grove, sta. on branch of Great Eastern Ry., SE. Middlesex, 4 miles SW. of Enfield. In vicinity is Bruce Castle, school, standing on site of house which belonged to the father of King Robert the Bruce.
