In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Elm Grove like this:
ELM GROVE, a place in Ealing parish, Middlesex: 6½ miles W of London. It was formerly called Hickes-on-the-Heath, and was the seat of Secretary Turnbull, Bishop Egeton, Lord Kinnaird, and Spencer Perceval.
