In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Enfield Lock like this:
ORDNANCE-FACTORY, a railway station near the meeting-point of Middlesex, Essex, and Herts; on the Great Eastern railway, 1 mile S of Waltham station, and 13¾ N by E of Bishopsgate in London.
