In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Henton like this:
HENTON, a hamlet in Wookey parish, and a chapelry partly also in Meare parish, Somerset. The hamlet lies near the Mendip hills, 4 miles W of Wells r. station. The chapelry was constituted in 1848. Post town, Wookey, under Wells, Somerset. Pop., 548. Houses, 128. Pop. of the Wookey portion, 501. Houses, 118. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Bath and Wells. Value, £100. Patron, the Bishop of Bath and Wells. The church was built in 1847. There is a chapel for Bible Christians.
