In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Polbathick like this:
POLBATHICK, a hamlet in the E of Cornwall; under a wooded hill, at the head of the Lynher estuary, near the Cornwall railway, in the W vicinity of St. Germans. It has a post-office under Devonport.
