In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Oakfield like this:
OAKFIELD, a chapelry in St. Helens parish, Isle of Wight; on the N E coast, in the S E vicinity of Ryde. It was constituted in 1844; and its post town is Ryde. Pop., 1, 547. Houses, 292. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Winchester. Value, £100.* Patron, the Incumbent of St. Helens.
