In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Stone like this:
STONE, a hamlet in Fawley parish, Hants; 8½ miles SSE of Southampton. It is the Ad Lapidem where the brothers of Arvandus were put to death, in 687, by Ceadwall. Real property, £310.
