In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Scandale like this:
SCANDALE BECK, a streamlet in the W of Westmoreland; rising between Rydal Head and the Red Screes; running 4 miles south-south-westward to the Rothay, in the W vicinity of Ambleside; traversing aravine down the long southern offshoot of Fairfield; and making some pretty cascades.
Scandale is now part of WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS Unitary Authority. Click here for graphs and data of how WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Scandale itself, go to Statistics.
