In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Lee Scar Rocks like this:
Lee Scar Rocks, skerry, off coast of Cumberland, at mouth of Solway Firth, 5 miles N. of Allonby; has lighthouse 45 ft. high, with fixed light (Lee Scar) 25 ft. above high water and seen 10 miles.
