In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Hightown like this:
HIGHTOWN, a village on the coast of Lancashire; near the river Alt and the Liverpool and Southport railway, 3½ miles NNW of Great Crosby. It has a station on the railway.
Hightown is now part of SEFTON District. Click here for graphs and data of how SEFTON has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Hightown itself, go to Statistics.
