In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Ullock like this:
ULLOCK, a township, with a r. station and with two hamlets, in Dean parish, Cumberland; on the Whitehaven and Marron railway, 5½ miles SW by S of Cockermouth. Real property, £2,363. Pop., 353. Houses, 69.
