In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Holbeck Woodhouse like this:
HOLBECK-WOODHOUSE, a hamlet in Norton-Cuckney parish, Notts; ½ a mile SE of Holbeck township. A chapel of ease is here, endowed with £45 a year, and served by the Vicar of Norton-Cuckney.
