In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Holway like this:
HOLWAY-EXTRA-PORTAM, a tything in TauntonST. Mary Magdalene parish, Somerset; within Taunton borough, and containing the hamlets of Holway, Shoreditch, and Hayton. Real property, £12, 145. Pop., 125.
