In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Caegurwen like this:
CAERGWRWAIN, or Caegwrwain, a hamlet in Llanguick parish, Glamorgan; on the verge of the county, at the river Twrch, 10 miles N of Neath. Real property, £3,507: of which £2,387 are in mines. Pop., 843.
