In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Wolseley like this:
WOLSELEY, a township in Colwich parish, Stafford; on the river Trent, 2½ miles NW of Rugeley. It has a post-office, of the name of Wolseley-Bridge, under Stafford. W. Hall is the seat of SirWolseley, Bart.
