In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Stoneclough like this:
STONECLOUGH, a place in the S of Lancashire; on the Manchester and Bolton railway, 7½ miles NW of Manchester. It has a station with telegraph on the railway, and a post-office under Manchester.
Stoneclough is now part of BOLTON District. Click here for graphs and data of how BOLTON has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Stoneclough itself, go to Statistics.
