In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Mousehold like this:
MOUSEHOLD, or Mousewold, a suburban place in Norfolk; 1 mile E of Norwich. It comprises elevatedground, formerly a heath; takes its name from numerouscaves, formed by digging out chalk clunch for builders; commands a fine view of the city; was the headquarters of the rebel Ket, till he was taken in Aug. 1549; retainsvestiges of a chapel to St. Leonard's priory, popularly called Ket's Castle; and has a post-office under Norwich. Part of what was formerly the heath is now within Thorpe Park.
